Nelly Furtado, Ron MacLean and Lisa Ray are just some of the bold-face names participating in the 2011 Scotiabank Giller Prize gala, it was announced Wednesday.The Toronto event, which will be hosted by CBC personality Jian Ghomeshi, pits authors David Bezmozgis, Lynn Coady, Esi Edugyan, Zsuzsi Gartner, Patrick deWitt and Michael Ondaatje up against each other for the $50,000 prize.
Hedley frontman Jacob Hoggard, singer-songwriter Robbie Robertson and actor Zaib Shaikh round out the presenters.
“The art of storytelling — whether through music, film, or literature — is incredibly important and I’m honoured to help pay homage to the work of our country’s finest literary talent,” Robertson said in a statement.
The gala will be broadcast live Nov. 8 on CBC’s bold TV.
