Josh Groban records duet with Nelly Furtado

Josh Groban announced that he recorded a duet with Nelly Furtado for her upcoming Spanish album. Groban announced his mystery duet partner via Twitter this week. Although this will be her first Spanish album, Furtado has previously recorded duets in Spanish with Colombian rock star Juanes. The song, "Un Día Normal,” was included in Juanes' 2002 album. Later, in 2006, she recorded "Te Busqué" with Juanes and included it in "Loose," her 2006 release.

Like Groban, Nelly Furtado is heavily influenced by world music and is known to experiment with a variety of sounds and languages. The 30 year-old pop star is of Portuguese descent. Born and raised in Victoria, British Columbia, Canada, Furtado starting singing at the young age of 4. By the age of 9, she was playing both the trombone and ukulele. She started off her career as part of the hip-hop duo, Nelstar, and soon was flying solo with her first hit album, Whoa, Nelly! Although her success has come from her pop/dance hits such as “Like A Bird” and “Say it Right,” she has not forgotten her roots. She also plans on releasing a Portugese album.

Furtado could not have chosen a better person than Josh Groban to record a song in Spanish. Their voices should mesh beautifully. The album is due out in September of this year.
